Daniel: Thanks. I am enjoying MarsEdit so far. Because it is so simple, I was mystified at first. Still getting used to the uncluttered UI of most cottage Mac programs after many years in front of a Windows PC.

I am unfamiliar with the MetaWeblog API, but have come across it a couple of times, most recently while looking at Journler. However, I think I can just remember to Opt+Cmd+L if as timestamp needs fixing :)

Hi there - this is Daniel Jalkut, the developer of MarsEdit. Here through the magic of referrer logs :)

There isn't a "sticky date" setting in MarsEdit, but that might be a good idea. Notice that the "original post date" does stay the same when MarsEdit updates a post (unless you explicitly change it using "Edit Date" from the Post menu). The trick would be to prevent the blog from updating the "modified date" ... so that news readers and such don't pick up the changes, right?

The big question is whether the MetaWeblog API that WordPress (and other systems) uses would support such a feature. A quick look at WordPress's implementation at least suggests that the modified date is not controllable by the client - it will always set the modified date to the current time.
