The Buoy Who Cried Wolffish

I am acting radical and reckless with the Cephalopodcast site. I’ve cleared the blog archives and set up a new database. One reason is that when I started with Wordpress back in 2005, many of its current features where either unavailable or opaque to me. This led to files spread across multiple directories, half-tagged entries, inconsistent categories and a senescent sidebar. At some point the shell midden got so high that I now think it best to knock it all down, set fire to the remains and build again on a leveled mound of molluscious refuse. It’s not the first time I’ve cried this, but this time it is really happening.

Now with More Naval Grazing

Something else that I am trying is thematic writing for each month. Rather than writing randomly about whatever topic drifts into the pool, I’ll be selecting a specific theme, a new marine habitat and a new group of oceanic organisms to write about each month. I struck upon this idea a while ago but the Year of Science folks converged on a similar notion. So for synergy’s sake, I’ll be overlapping with their themes on several occasions throughout the year. I hope having this structure will lend itself to writing more consistent content but I welcome serendipity and fortune too.

So for February, the theme is Evolution, the habitat is coastal dunes and the organismal focus will be on seabirds (with an emphasis on shorebirds in particular).
