Fresh Roasted Graphics is starting a sketch-a-thon of 31 Days of Monsters for the month of October. Her promo badge already inspired me to start with one of my favorite monsters, The Gill-Man. You can join in the fun and festivities too by posting your own monster sketches to the Flickr group.
I began with a pencil sketch this time, which is unusual for me. Typically I start the hard way straight inside Illustrator. Clearly the composition mimics the promo badge that was the original inspiration. I also borrowed an eyeball from Adobe since I wasn’t sure how to easily get the iris right. I doubt I’ll be able to keep up with a new sketch every day, but I definitely see somethings tentacular showing up here soon.

Wrack Lines is a recurring series on this blog, featuring some of the artwork and designs I’ve created in Illustrator and Photoshop. In real life, a wrack line is the strand of seaweed and other debris washed up along the beach and usually indicates the high tide mark. But here it also refers to the vector-based lines of programs that I seem to be racking my brains against. I am a recreational graphic designer and amateur photographer.
