This Week in Sea Turtles (TWiST)

Hey, a new aquatic podcast!

TWiST: This Week in Sea Turtlesfe thumbnail [4K, 80x60]Hot topics in sea turtle research and conservation.

Hosts: Michael Coyne, Matthew Godfrey and Manjula Tiwari

This is an experiment. We aren’t entirely sure where this will go, but we hope it will stimulate discussion and inform and educate the sea turtle community. It also gives the geeks another outlet! We plan to make this a weekly show, so listen and enjoy!

Podcasting Legal Guide

The Creative Commons have released an online legal guide for podcasters. From the forward by Lawrence Lessing:

Creative Commons Podcasting Legal Guide icon [4K, 80x60]This Guide is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to figure out how best to follow the law…my hope for this Guide (which in addition to copyright addresses publicity rights and trademark law) is that it will begin to make obvious what digital creators have been saying for some time - that it is time we update copyright law to the digital age. Something fantastic has changed: technology now invites the widest range of citizens to become speakers and creators. It is time that the law remove the unnecessary burdens that it imposes on this creativity.

“Copyright law” is essential in a digital age. But it ought to be a copyright law made for a digital age. Ours is not. And this fantastic Guide for those wanting to obey the rules should be evidence enough to convince anyone of that fact.

Fresh episode coming out tomorrow

A spicy new episode of the Cephalopodcast will be out tomorrow. Sorry for the long delay.

Flying squid

This looks like it will be fun:

[64x54, 4K]The flying squid is able to fly through the air to escape its enemies. The flying squid can soar at speeds of over 30 mph (50 km/hr), and sometimes fly as far as 160 feet (50 meters) at a time! The flying squid spreads the membrane between its tentacles and uses it like a wing, and uses its front fins to stabilize its body.

Go, Go, Gadget Bag

Canon Gadget Bag EG100 [200x150, 8K]
Getting a rough start to the blog and podcast. Hope to have more postings soon. One of the problems is with the microphone I chose. It’s a Snowball USB microphone from Blue. So far it seems to do a decent job. But one of the problems I found is with its portability. Like its name implies, it’s round like a snowball and awkward to carry. So I have been looking for some kind of case to stow it in along with the accessories. I think I may have found the solution in Canon’s Gadget Bag 100EG. The bag is just the right size to hold the mic and headphones.

Okay, so where’s the podcast?

I’ve spent that last couple of days learning how to play with WordPress. Also teaching myself the not-so-subtleties of recording and syndication. The test message is out there. The first episode should be available soon. Please standby.
